Hilife Portable Clothes Steamer Review

Every time we see a new garment steamer available on Amazon we have a brief moment where we’re excited. Not quite as giddy as a child at Christmas, but it’s certainly interesting to see what these companies come up with.

And at first glance this new model from Hilife hits our buttons – I think it looks pretty good and I have a soft spot for white appliances with bright plastic bits. Weird, I know. And there’s a badge saying ‘2018 new technology’. Ooooh!

But then you see that this brand new product already has 100 5-star reviews. And your heart sinks because you know there’s only one explanation – they are all fake reviews paid for by the manufacturer.

On the one hand, it’s understandable, because having a lot of reviews helps companies get more visible on Amazon, so they make more sales. But let’s be honest, it’s deception plain and simple.

“As of the time of writing, Amazon has deleted 352 of these obviously fake reviews. And they just keep coming. Incredible.”

The Product

If you’re in the market for a good travel steamer you should check our top picks in that category. On the face of it, this one compares fairly well.

Inexpensive, portable (weighs 1.2 lbs), FCC-approved, with a clearly visible water level and a promise of no spitting.

An auto-shut-off feature turns it off when it’s too low on water or gets too hot. It’s all good!

The tank is big enough to steam a whole suit, but if you’re thinking of doing your whole family’s laundry with this, you’ll be running back to the faucet half the time.

Get a full-size model in that case. For something to pop in your suitcase, this would be fine.

  • Water level window for viewing when you need to refill
  • Great for traveling
  • FCC certified
  • Safe to use on all fabrics – even silk and plush
  • Automatic shut off feature
  • Doesn’t spit water out

  • Deceptive advertising
  • For those that live on the road, you might have to fill up water compartment up more than once to steam all of your clothes

Don’t buy this. But if you do, leave an honest review on the Amazon page so that other customers can see what it’s really like.
